5/9/2019 DOCUMENTARY 'I AM TABITHA' HEADED TO THE GEORGIA DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL IN ATLANTARead NowThe documentary ‘I Am Tabitha’ will be screened at the Georgia Documentary Film Festival in Atlanta, GA on June 1, 2019 between the 1pm to 4pm time slot. The film is also nominated for the ‘Best Georgia Film’ award.
The film was directed and produced by Sierra D. Blake and co-directed and co-produced by Kareem McMichael. ‘I Am Tabitha’ the documentary, which chronicles the founding and resources of the Tabitha House & Resource Center, was created when Blake was talking the center founder Khailiah Robinson about her work and life mission. Blake’s documentary touched on the topics of the disparities single women without children face while homeless, dealing with domestic violence and more and the lack of resources statewide to support women who need shelter, mental health treatment and more to get back on their feet independently. Then is explores how the Tabitha House & Resource Center helps provides many resources for the women. The film was created by Georgia Film Academy students at Savannah Technical College. Blake and McMcihael were both in the program at the time they produced the documentary. The film has been submitted to many film festivals and in 2018 was screened at the SSU Indie Film Festival where is won the award for Best Documentary. Kareem McMichael has been elected to serve on the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast chapter Board of Governors. His 2 year term starts in August 2019.
